The STARS Program provides intermediate residential treatment for young males between the ages of six (6) and twelve (12) who have a history of sexual, physical, and emotional victimization. This type of trauma often results in the children having sexual behavior problems.
The intake process involves apsycho-sexual assessment to determine the severity of the sexual behaviors and level of aggression. Children with sexual behavior problems range from sexually-reactive to mutual sexual behaviors to children who molest. Therefore, the treatment process includes a continual and ongoing assessment to determine the extent of the child’s sexual problems. Treatment goals and interventions are tailored to address the child’s unique needs.
The STARS Program is a twelve to eighteen-month program specifically aimed to treat each child’s sexual behavior problems. The living environment is designed to promote a structured, predictable and non-abusive environment where secrets are discouraged. The children are under adult supervision twenty-four hours a day with each child having their own private bedroom and bath. The acceptance of personal responsibility, combined with the relearning of appropriate boundaries, understanding healthy sexuality and the appropriate use of power and control are the core program components.
Group, individual, and recreational therapy is provided along with consultation with our psychiatrist. Family involvement is encouraged and developed through a regular visitation schedule and family therapy.
Each child also receives regular medical and educational services.
Our Child Care Counselors and other vital team members work to build a trusting and nurturing relationship with each child in order to support and challenge them to better themselves emotionally, behaviorally, socially and spiritually.
