Referral Sources

Referral Types Accepted:

  • DFCS Custody
  • DFCS/DJJ Joint Custody
  • MAAC Referrals
  • Parental Custody (special circumstances)

Population Served

Children and Youth, ages 6-17; youth may be served beyond 17 until emancipation
Minimum IQ: 70; below 70 on case by case basis; STARS Program Minimum IQ: 85
Public School Eligible; Alternative School acceptable
Must be ambulatory and independently mobile

Youth Characteristics include, but not limited to:

  • Mild/Moderate Behavioral Issues
  • Mild/Moderate Emotional Issues
  • Oppositional/Defiant Behaviors
  • Reactive Attachment Issues (RAD)
  • Sexual Abuse History
  • Specialty Program for Sexually Reactive Youth (STARS)

Population Not Served

  • Youth who are drug or alcohol dependent (those with a history of substance use can be served on a case by case basis)
  • Youth who are currently suicidal, extremely aggressive or psychotic
  • Youth are pregnant.
  • Youth are medically fragile
  • Adjudicated Delinquents (can be served on a case by case basis)
  • Youth clearly in need of more intensive services

Program Services

  • Residential Care: Maximum Watchful Oversight/Additional Watchful Oversight services provided to children and youth across five (5) regions.
  • Emergency Placement: All sites offer emergency placement services to DFCS counties in a fifty mile radius of the regional office.
  • STARS: Specialized Treatment for Abuse Reactive Syndrome services for boys 6-12 years old.

Other Services Offered

  • Price Educational Center, Macon Campus: Elementary classrooms for students grades 3-7.
  • Higher Education: Educational supports available for youth attending college, vocational school and/or military.
  • Eagle’s Nest Daycare Center, Macon: Premiere daycare center services for infants and children, 6 weeks- 4 years old.
