The mission of the Preparation for Independent Living Program is to provide a safe, stable environment while assisting youth placed at The Methodist Home to develop necessary life skills that they will need to become self-sufficient, productive and contributing members of society.
We are able to provide life skills' training to the students at our weekly group meetings. We also provide off-campus workshops and activities that we feel are beneficial to our young people. Preparation for independent living skills include financial skills, cooking, car care, life interests, hobbies and other skills and talents needed in life. Our agency strives to equip our youth with the knowledge, skills and moral values needed for success in life.
For those youth who plan to continue their education beyond high school, we have an avenue of assistance. Because of the generosity of those interested in the higher education of our youth, a special fund exists to provide college and vocational assistance to youth continuing in these endeavors. Our staff begins early in identifying and assisting those interested in furthering their education.
Tutorials are available to assist in preparation for college entrance exams. Assistance is given in completing all necessary applications and related forms. Campus visits are arranged to selected colleges so that our students are able to experience true college life first hand in general, and at their school of interest, specifically. |
