Key Leadership Team


Dr. Steve L. Rumford, President/CEO - With over 35 years experience in human services, Steve Rumford (A.C.S.W./L.C.S.W) has been the CEO of The Methodist Home since 1984. He has served as chair of both Kentucky and Georgia Associations for Homes and Services (twice) for Children and Families and currently is the chairperson of the United Methodist Association’s Health and Welfare Association. With an extensive accreditation background he has chaired Council on Accreditation reviews across the nation and served as chairperson of the EAGLE Accreditation Commission of the United Methodist Association. Steve has been a presenter at conferences across the nation and in the United Kingdom as well as serving on numerous task forces and work groups on a state and national level. His special interests are in the areas of collaboration, strategic planning and visioning, program development and workforce enhancement. He was the first American to achieve the Scottish Level 5 Strategic Management Award and has received numerous state and national awards. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in Christian Ministry from Asbury College in 2006.

Ms. Jill Myers, Executive Vice President – Jill Myers (MPA) has served at The Methodist Home for over 22 years. She is a central player in our Performance Quality Improvement efforts, and is the key staff member for our Strategic Plan. Jill is a Certified Peer Reviewer for the Council on Accreditation and heads up all accreditation efforts for The Methodist Home (including COA and EAGLE). Jill earned her bachelor’s in Psychology from Georgia College, and her Master of Public Administration degree from the same institution. Jill has been Certified as a CALM (Crisis & Aggression Limitation and Management) instructor, as a Child Care Worker for the State of Georgia, and as a Trainer for Walk Through The Bible Ministries Leadership and Team Building. Jill has received numerous awards and accolades for her work, including recognition as Servant Leader of the Year.

Dr. Derek W. McAleer, Vice President for Development & Church Relations– Derek came to The Methodist Home staff in 2006 after serving in local church pastorates across South Georgia for 26 years. As a former Board of Trustees member for The Methodist Children’s Home, Magnolia Manor, and The St. Marys UMC Foundation, Derek has a good understanding of the work of Methodism and charitable institutions across South Georgia. Derek currently serves as national chair of the section on Public Relations, Development, and Marketing of the United Methodist Association. Derek has special interests in the areas of leadership development, fiscal accountability, and leadership accountability in the local church, and has led workshops on the local church, district, and conference level.

Dr. Jeffrey Lawrence, Vice President for Programs and Services/Chief Program Officer – Serving at The Methodist Home since 1985, Jeff Lawrence (D. Min, L.S.W.) has been involved with every aspect of our services. He received his B.A. in Finance from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA in 1979. In 1984 he received his Master of Divinity in Christian Education/Church Administration and his Doctor of Ministry degree in 2004 from the ITC-Morehouse School of Religion in Atlanta, GA. In 1988 he received his Master of Social Work from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. Jeff Lawrence became a Licensed Social Worker for the State of Georgia in 1991. Dr. Lawrence is a member of The National Association of Social Workers and the Georgia Association of Homes and Services for Children. He is a certified instructor for CALM Crisis Management Program, a trainer for the Foundations for Helping Professions Course and a sought after trainer throughout the state of Georgia.

Mr. Michael Budlong, Vice President for Clinical Services – Mr. Budlong (A.C.S.W.) completed his undergraduate work at Wilmington College in Wilmington, OH and obtained his Masters in Social Work at Syracuse University in NY. He served as the Vice President of Children’s Services at Lutheran Family Services in Raleigh, NC; Senior Vice President of the Child Welfare Institute in Atlanta, GA before coming to The Methodist Home. Michael has several professional publications and has presented at state, national and international conference and meetings. Mr. Budlong is a champion of Family Centered Therapy, and frequently speaks and teaches on the topic.

Mr. Bruce Stanfield, Vice President for Finances – After years of serving in the business world (including as accountant in a local CPA firm, at a restaurant corporation, and with The Macon Telegraph), Bruce Stanfield (CPA) brought his finance and accounting skills to the service of The Methodist Home in 1998. Bruce’s strengths in accounting, analyzing complex financial data, and financial data projections have served The Home well. He is responsible for all financial management, budgeting, and tax reporting for The Methodist Home, as well as assisting with our annual outside audit and IRS reporting forms (including our IRS 990).

Dr. Laudis H. “Rick” Lanford, President, The Foundation of the Methodist Home - Dr. Lanford was Vice President of Development for The Methodist Home for 13 years before moving full-time to The Foundation of The Methodist Home in 2007. As a child welfare advocate, he has served as a Commissioner for the Georgia Children’s Trust Fund Commission and as a board member for Georgia Association for Homes and Services for Children Foundation. His background includes experience with budgets and fundraising in churches as well as serving on various local and state boards, including serving as past national chair of the section on Public Relations, Development, and Marketing of the United Methodist Association. Lanford is an active member in the Macon Exchange Club; on the Macon-Bibb County Law Enforcement Foundation Board; and Chairs the Investment Committee for the South Georgia Conference Trustees for the United Methodist Church and the Disciple Covenant Conference Team. He currently serves as the Senior Law Enforcement Chaplain for Homeland Security under the Office of the Governor. He has completed training for Fund Raising and Estate Planning and also conducts trainings on fundraising and planned giving. As an experienced trainer, Dr. Lanford teaches workshops on fund-raising, motivation and team building.
